PETIT CHATEAU SPA
CONTRACT VALUE: €5 MILLION
CLIENT: HALCYON RETREAT
LOCATION: DOMAINE DE LA FOT, FRANCE
CONTRACT PERIOD: 2011 - PRESENT
This €5m project is the renovation and extension of an existing seventeenth century chateau in rural France to create a destination spa for the wider area. The 900m2 Spa offers a sequence of sensual bodily experiences, including treatment rooms, sauna, steam-room, salt-bath, mud-bath and outdoor jacuzzi. The new principle space has warm reclining space with indoor heated swimming pool leading directly to outdoor heated pool with view over the landscape to the Silver Lake, L’Étang d’Argent. The spaces wrap around a secluded new leafy olive courtyard. There are refreshments in the welcoming salon with original stone hearth or the new terrace café. The original building has beautiful unique historic features in every space.
The sequence of spaces cascade over the steep slope and the spa experience has been carefully designed for fully accessible experience.
Mador Architects have been involved since the masterplanning phase and are over-seeing a phased construction process. Foundations, floor-slabs, new openings, stairs, replacement historic external joinery and roof renovation are complete and the superstructure to the new extension is commencing.
