Birkwood Castle is a wonderful listed building located 20 miles south of Glasgow. Mador Architects obtained detailed planning and listed building consent for the evolution of the estate as a holiday and leisure resort. The project involved the conversion and extension of the Castle into a 60 bedroom hotel together with the discrete holiday properties and apartments on the site.

The building was in a grievous state, having been abandoned for some years since the NHS vacated the estate. During the design process a large portion of the property collapsed adding to the requirement for a sensitive design approach.
