Mador Architects were appointed to undertake the master planning and detailed design of the redevelopment of the Cormorant Hotel in the village of Golant, overlooking the Fowey Estuary.
The proposal consists of 9 detached residencies that break down the existing volume into a series of smaller forms, six to the north and three to the south. The homes nestle into the existing verdant and picturesque landscape in a manner that closely relates to the scale and characteristics of the existing village buildings and townscape.
The design process has involved careful examination of the existing context and surrounding area in order to evolve a design proposal that is sensitive and in-keeping with the character of the locality. The design approach integrates landscape and architecture in response to the spectacular natural surroundings and local architecture and materials.
